What You Need to Know

Salary: $55,000/Annually

Position Details: Employee will supervise (6) Student Coordinators as needed. Routinely required to be available to return to work outside normal working hours. May be required to drive a vehicle. Ability to promptly respond to on-site emergency calls.

Physical Requirements: Job duties will require the ability to sit, lift/carry/push/pull (moderate weight), bend/stoop, kneel/stoop, reach, talk, hear, climb stairs and ladders, ability to travel from building to building. Occupant will be exposed to weather traveling to meetings and use a video display terminal. Position also occasionally involves working in confined areas, exposure to weather and temperatures, potential allergenic/irritant conditions, possible hazardous chemicals, noise exposure to tools, vibration of tools.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Four years of related experience in facilities, operations, and/or events

Required Licenses and Certifications:

  • Must have a Class “C” vehicle operator’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to use word processing, spreadsheet, and database programs

  • Ability to work well with many different types of people

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others

  • Ability to promptly respond to on-site emergency calls

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least two or more years of building management experience in a university setting including some supervisory experience in maintenance, custodial services, renovation and/or new construction

  • Event Management related experience

  • Background in building management

Essential Duties/Tasks:

  • Coordination - Works collaboratively with all entities (including contracted companies) having responsibility for the upkeep, safety and compliance of university on-campus housing to ensure residence hall buildings, apartments, corps dorms, support buildings, events, and conferences receive the best possible care and services. Assists the Associate Director with the planning of renovations and construction projects in conjunction with TAMU facilities and construction groups. Performs and coordinates various necessary inspections, conducts site visits, and represents the Department of Residence Life at meetings regarding services provided by TAMU Facilities, Utility Energy Services (UES), Transportation Services (TS) and SSC for maintenance, renovation, and construction projects. Gathers budgetary documents for maintenance, renovation, and construction projects to be reviewed by the Associate Director and Executive Director of Residence Life. Coordinates modification of spaces for approved ADA accommodation requests. Collaborates with entities providing preventative maintenance on building systems. Performance of duties may require operation of a university or other motor vehicle.

  • Administrative - Submits and/or requests work orders be submitted on behalf of the department. Monitors the progress and completion of work orders submitted regarding departmental spaces and buildings. Coordinates the selection and approval of furniture and equipment purchases for department. Reviews and updates building specification sheets. Works with vendors that provide equipment and various services for on campus residential students. Works collaboratively with contractors, vendors and university departments to provide access to Residence Life buildings and spaces as needed. Submits and tracks work orders for TAMU IT and Telecommunications services for department. Addresses safety and risk needs and issues as they arise. Coordinates with the Sustainability Coordinator, UES, SSC, and other entities as needed to support sustainable operations within residential communities and DRL managed spaces. Maintains and updates the ISES FCA database for Residence Life buildings.

  • Inspection and Inventory - Conducts inventory, safety, maintenance, and cleanliness inspections of all Residence Life buildings, spaces, furniture, equipment and assets. Submits work orders and reports as appropriate. Follows-up on work requests submitted and as necessary on safety, maintenance, grounds and cleaning needs. Conducts inspections in staff apartments prior to and after move-out and annually if staff have pets in residence. Manages inventory of all items in storage. Coordinates the of movement of assets to TAMU Surplus. Maintains accurate inventory records and conducts annual inventory certification of departmental equipment and assets. Oversees equipment and furniture moves as it relates to property and inventory controls including storage locations. Coordinates with TAMU facilities manager and coordinators on monitoring of building utility delivery and consumption. Updates and submits annual university facility space inventory. Performance of duties may require operation of a university or other motor vehicle.

  • Conferences and Events - Oversees the preparation and coordination of building usage for summer operations, daily or yearly events, opening and closing of the halls and apartments, and interim housing. Collaborates with external and internal stakeholders to plan and facilitate move in/out, closing, event space management, and summer operations; this includes but is not limited to event room set-up/take-down, room preparations, conference linen oversight, and move-in and move-out preparations. Coordinates concession table reservations, set up, and equipment. Assists concessionaires with space use requests. Serves on the University Concessions Committee as a representative of the Department of Residence Life.

  • Department/University commitments - Serves on Departmental, Division, or University wide committees, or task forces at the discretion of direct supervisor or the Executive Director of Residence Life. Participates in workshops and training as needed.
