Position Summary
The Program Coordinator for the Division of Pediatric and Adolescent Surgery in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery provides coordination, support and resources to patients and families travelling nationally or internationally for pediatric orthopedic care. The position initiates and implements strategies that support the growth of destination care in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery. The person in this role will utilize discretion, operate independently and collaboratively, and strive to create a welcoming, equitable, and inclusive work environment.


Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Communicate with destination travel patients/families regarding appointments, care plans, financial, health and concierge resources available.
  • Exhibit an understanding of cultural nuances and act as an advocate on behalf of international patients to provide equitable healthcare services.
  • Develop and implement destination care strategies to accommodate national and international patients.
  • Serve as a care consultant for other market service area (MSA) hospitals and centers.
  • Promote and maintain effective communication and collaboration with St. Louis Childrenâ™s Hospital (SLCH) and WashU Orthopedics clinicians and leadership teams.
  • Partner with department leadership and SLCH on geographic expansion strategies and support future growth to existing pediatric orthopedic centers of care.
  • Partner with WashU Ortho and SLCH marketing teams for outreach opportunities to grow the orthopedic destination care program.
  • Provide complex calendar scheduling, coordinate travel and engagements; and provide coordination of facilities and resources to ensure destination patients have appropriate access to clinical spaces.
  • Provide support to pediatric orthopedic leadership team, clinicians, and the chief of pediatric orthopedic surgery for administrative and academic activities.
  • Handle confidential or sensitive information regularly; coordinate and provide oversight for complex projects.
  • Maintain established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives.
  • Attend industry conferences, meetings, and events to promote SLCH/WashU Orthopedics and make relevant connections.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 


Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelorâ™s degree in health care or related discipline.
  • Two to four years of experience in providing health-care customer service to patients.
  • Understanding of and sensitivity to cultural differences when communicating with patients and families.
  • Ability to appropriately operate in a professional office environment.
  • Familiarity with using standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and scanners.
  • Experience and initiative in managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Advanced time management skills.
  • Ability to ethically handle confidential information.
  • Verbal fluency in two or more languages.
  • Experience in an academic health-care setting.
  • Experience with Epic EMR.
  • Exceptional organizational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds, including high-profile scholars and dignitaries.
  • Excellent writing skills and attention to detail.


Required Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent high school certification and five years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Salary Range
$22.92 - $35.49 / Hourly

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
