Vision Research - open rank University of Louisville Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences

The Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences and the Vision Sciences Center at UofL is currently seeking outstanding candidates for full- time, tenure track position at any level. We seek investigators in both basic and clinical research who focus on normal ocular function, ocular disease and its causes, as well as therapeutic approaches to alter the course of disease. We seek individuals using 'cutting edge' technology to address these areas of research. To be considered, Associate and Full Professors must have extramural support, and Assistant Professors may not yet be funded. Candidates will be expected to demonstrate how they will establish and/or sustain an innovative research program supported by extramural funding (Federal, Private Foundation and/or Industry Contracts).

Areas of strength (current and previous) within the Department/Vision Sciences Center are:

  • Normal retinal structure and function
  • Retinal disease and its causes
  • Dry eye disease
  • Uveitis
  • Immune response as related to retinal disease and its treatment
  • Imaging methods to tract disease progression.

Each should have a component related to the treatment of disease.

Areas with strong collaborative components at UofL are:

  • Retinal and visual system structure and function
  • Sensory systems structure and function
  • Molecular approaches for gene therapy in the retina
  • Regenerative approaches to retinal disease
Emerging areas within the University are:
  • Genomics & Bioinformatics
  • Genetic diversity of the Immune System

The Department/Center for Visual Sciences provides an invigorating, collaborative, and interactive work environment across a number of areas of Visual Science. There is

a strong presence in sensory neuroscience and the use of animal models of neurodegenerative diseases. State-of-the-art institutional facilities provide assistance with proteomics, next-generation sequencing, metabolomics, animal behavior and imaging.

Research also has a strong partnership with the Ophthalmology Clinic.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in studying ocular/retinal structure and function using state of the art techniques. The candidates will have a strong publication record, ability and desire to work collaboratively with current members of the Visual Sciences Community. The candidate may hold an M.D., a Ph.D. or both. We seek creative, responsible, and highly motivated candidates. Salary and rank will be commensurate with the candidate's experience, qualifications and funding.
