Position Highlights The James E. Rogers College of Law at the University of Arizona is i4J is hiring a Professor of Practice/Structure Impact Area Lead. The primary purposes of this position are: to implement and teach a community-engaged, project-based curriculum centered on applying design- and systems-thinking research methodology to developing research deliverables for policy advocates; work as part of an interdisciplinary, cross-institutional teaching team to undertake exploration, design, and implementation of learner-centered teaching strategies and technologies for i4J’s access to justice courses; provide programmatic support to i4J; and expand the audience of i4J’s research and findings. This position is funded for 3 years and subject to renewal of funds. This position needs to be service oriented.

This career-track appointment is not eligible for tenure.

Duties & Responsibilities

Implement and teach interdisciplinary law + technology for policy advocacy courses (30%)

  • Select community-engaged projects appropriate for embedding in existing i4J course focused on regulatory reform
  • Combine the law and design- and thinking- research approaches with rigorous and engaging pedagogical approaches and observable and measurable student learning outcomes
  • Work with an interdisciplinary, cross-institutional teaching team to undertake the exploration, design, and implementation of learner-centered teaching strategies and deliverables for i4J courses centered on access to justice policy
  • Build a flexible course map that can adapt to new projects each semester or bridge across a full academic year depending on community partner needs and project requirements
  • Enhance student learning and leadership and foster student engagement to outreach, internships, and research
  • Supervise and mentor i4J GTAs and post-graduate fellows
  • Engage in regular professional development opportunities to stay current with the rapidly changing fields of access to justice policy and online education

Structure Impact Area Lead duties (30%)

  • Establish a vision and roadmap to drive forward research deliverables for policy advocacy course offerings and program partnership decisions and developments that are in line with the overarching i4J strategic direction
  • Cultivate and maintain a welcoming and engaging culture that bridges and connects students and teaching teams from both campuses across i4J courses
  • Build community with partners internally at UArizona and Utah and with external research methodology and policy advocacy experts to advance learner success through opportunities for engagement and mentorship with professionals in the field
  • Liaise with A2J organizations and state, local, and national jurisdictions to identify projects for access to justice for policy advocacy courses and research initiatives
  • Identify and implement community engagement in policy advocacy projects
  • Serve as PI or Co-PI for externally funded programs that advance i4J’s technology for policy advocacy efforts and extend i4J’s reputation in this field

i4J program support (20%)

  • Assist with the creation and implementation of an overarching strategic vision and roadmap for i4J
  • Assist with identifying and acting on external opportunities for funding, partnerships, and growth initiatives
  • Collaborate with i4J staff to increase the lab’s trauma-informed and trauma-responsive practices among staff, within the virtual classroom, and with community partners and members
  • Assist with research methodology and IRB application for i4J research projects across impact areas

Knowledge, skills, abilities

  • Skill in teaching in a higher education setting, and a deep commitment to online learning, enhancing learner agency, and learner-centered approaches in education
  • Expert in qualitative and quantitative data collection, analysis, and synthesis
  • Expert in design- and/or systems-thinking practices
  • Evidence of an empathetic and creative mindset and comfort with complex and sensitive issues
  • Comfort with ambiguity and fast-paced, rapidly evolving environments
  • Skill with strategic planning principles and practices, and demonstrated change, growth, and innovation management abilities
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, including the ability to effectively communicate with individuals of varying technical and substantive subject matter expertise
  • Broad knowledge in collaborative technology tools used in human-centered design and research
Minimum Qualifications
  • Juris Doctor degree
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in developing research deliverables for policy advocacy
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with online teaching and learning best practices
  • Experience leading successful multi-disciplinary teams and directing complex projects
  • Experience in creative problem solving
  • Experience with quantitative and mixed-method survey creation, dispersion, and analysis
  • Experience with trauma-informed and trauma-responsive practices and working with vulnerable populations
  • Experience in cross-jurisdictional community-engagement
  • Evidence of scholarly achievement or demonstrated potential as a scholar
