Professor and Department Chair

The University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and UPMC (University of Pittsburgh Medical Center) invites applications and nominations for the position of Chair of the internationally renowned Department of Urology. The Chair of Urology reports to the Senior Vice Chancellor for the Health Sciences and Dean of the School of Medicine, as well as to the President of the UPMC Health Services Division and the CEO of UPMC. The incumbent will oversee the clinical, academic, and research activities of the Department of Urology and hold the Frederic N. Schwentker Endowed Chair. The Chair oversees Urology clinical services throughout the UPMC system, consisting of more than 40 hospitals, directly supervising 50 clinical faculty members at 21 clinical sites and 4 research faculty members. 

The Department provides comprehensive care in every domain of urology, including urologic oncology, pediatric urology, endourology and stone disease management, female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery, neurology, infertility and andrology, reconstruction, and general urology. In addition to 7 academic teaching hospitals, the Department has a robust Community Division at 11 locations in Western Pennsylvania. The Department’s research portfolio includes 30 federally funded grants (NIH, DOD, DARPA). Current research areas with extramural funding include health services research, oncology, neurology/BPH, and infertility.  Research themes include health policy, technology uptake, quality of care, pharmacoepidemiology, novel drug discovery, androgen receptor biology, MR imaging in cancer staging, device development, inflammation, and molecular mechanisms of azoospermia. The Department provides unparalleled educational experiences for medical students, residents, and fellows. In addition to a very competitive six-year residency program, the Department offers accredited two-year clinical/research fellowships in Pediatric Urology and Urologic Oncology.

Candidates must have a distinguished record in academic urology, commensurate with appointment as a tenured full professor, and significant administrative experience.  Demonstrated ability to lead and recruit a diverse workforce will be highly desirable.  International applicants are welcome.
