Purpose

Arrange, describe, preserve, and provide access to various archives related to sports, exercise, weight training, and physical culture. We are looking for a project archivist to work with our tight-knit team who can thrive in a dynamic environment and adapt to changing priorities. This is an exciting opportunity for a new MLIS/MSIS or seasoned professional to make a significant impact in archival collection work and preservation techniques.


Responsibilities

Archival Management

  • Physical collections processing:

    • Perform word processing to produce finding aids.

    • Select and digitize original documents from collections for online access.

    • Create metadata using library and archival descriptive standards and controlled vocabularies.

    • Train and supervise project staff - including student workers and volunteers

    • Implement Dublin Core metadata standards for cataloging and indexing archival materials

    • Research to support the identification, acquisition, and description of archival materials

    • Write descriptive summaries and finding aids for archival collections

    • Knowledge of preservation and long-term access, such as basic book repair, paper treatments, encapsulation, and custom housing creation

    • Plan and execute projects

    • Work with clients and repositories directly via in-person, email, and phone.

    • Coordinate with iSchool faculty and provide supervision for iSchool student-based projects within the Stark Center

Digital Collection Management

  • Manage Stark Center’s Texas Archival Resources Online (TARO), ArchiveGrid (OCLC), and Omeka accounts

  • Collaborate with other team members to identify and prioritize digitization projects

  • Document project analytics to increase the probability of meeting quality goals and business objectives

  • Assist with digital collections accessibility and compliance

  • Develop workflows, policies, procedures and documentation for digitization, processing of digital assets, taxonomy management, metadata standards, and preservation of digital assets

Incidental Duties

  • Stark Center event preparations/breakdowns

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • ALA-accredited master’s degree or equivalent in Library/Information Sciences focusing on archives and records management.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of archival trends, theories, and best practices

  • Strong communication, planning, problem-solving, and analytical skills

  • Proficiency in Dublin Core metadata creation

  • Experience with archival processing techniques and procedures

  • Familiarity with Adobe and other Office Suite Software

  • Excellent research, writing, and communication skills

  • Strong organizational and project management abilities

  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment

  • Good computer skills

  • Project management skills

  • Flexible and adaptable

  • Attention to detail

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.


Salary Range

$55,000-$60,000

Work Shift

Retirement Plan Eligibility:

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
