The University System of Georgia (USG) is comprised of 26 higher education institutions as well as the University System Office (USO). Within the USO, our administrative operations are primarily housed in the Trinity Washington Building located in downtown Atlanta. Our Information Technology Services (ITS) division is located in Athens. The University System of Georgia Shared Services Center (SSC) is located in Sandersville. The Georgia Public Library System is located in Atlanta. The Georgia Archives is located in Morrow. The State of Georgia Records Center is located in Austell.

The Georgia Film Academy (GFA) is a professional organization, a unit of the University System of Georgia, that is committed to leading and advancing the entertainment arts industry and its workforce in Georgia. The GFA supports the Georgia Film Consortium (GFC), which is a unique-in-the-nation, state-wide collaboration of institutions of the University System of Georgia, Technical College System of Georgia and Independent institutions who offer professional courses in film, television, digital entertainment, Esports and game development.

The GFA promotes rigorous professional training, and supports opportunities for union-covered film and television production craft internships and placement in creative industries, apprenticeships and jobs in an effort to build a permanent and sustainable industry in the state. On behalf of the USG, TCSG, and their institutions, as well as private higher education institutions in Georgia who choose to use its resources, the GFA is dedicated to the development of both Georgia’s workforce and the industry which will utilize it.

• Teach 7 Production pathway courses in an academic year (3 Fall, 3 Spring, 1 Summer)
  • Manage courses through systematic use of syllabi and online student learning management system (D2L)
  • Keep accurate records of students’ class performance, attendance, and grades; evaluate students for consideration for internship program
  • Submit attendance and grade reporting as required per institutional deadlines
  • Adopt and implement common course objectives
  • Participate in assessment of student learning outcomes
  • Teach, train, advise and mentor students to help them develop skills necessary to join the film industry workforce in Georgia   

• Handle and complete various administrative responsibilities associated with class management
• Communicate effectively with students, faculty, and staff
• Collaborate on and implement revisions/improvements to current course curriculum
• Contribute to the design of course materials created for in-class presentation and other student resources
• Research current film/television industry standards and practices and revise course materials as necessary to include up to date industry practices
• Develop new craft and/or specialty courses
• Give input on equipment and resources needed for instruction
• Train/mentor new instructors and adjuncts
• Attend and participate in All-Instructor meetings following each semester
• Represent GFA on industry panels, events, career fairs, conferences, etc. Serve as guest speaker, present to tour groups, as needed

• More than 5 years widely recognized industry work experience on professional Feature Film/TV sets
• Evidence of deep, wide-ranging knowledge in a variety of on-set film and television production crafts in current standard industry practices.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Google Suite, PowerPoint, working with laptop and projector - basic knowledge. Familiarity of online learning management systems a plus

• Preferred, but not required:
  • Experience as a key, best boy, or department head
  • Teaching experience
  • Bachelor or Graduate degree in appropriate field
  • Union membership(s)
• Instructors' credentials, credits, and work experience must be recognized and respected by industry and labor, those who do the hiring in Georgia.

• The On-Set production processes (Locations and Stage)
• Electric/Lighting (basic equipment and procedures)
• Grip/Rigging (basic equipment, dolly operation, tripods and track)
• Camera (basic equipment and procedures)
• Sound (boom operation and general concepts of recording)
• Art Department (fundamentals of set decorator, set dressing and props)
• Hair, Make-up, Wardrobe (general concepts, workflow, on-set procedures)
• Locations (management, logistics, paperwork, scouting)
• Camera (general operation, shot composition, 2nd Assistant Camera)
• On-set and Office Production Assistant (work ethics, protocols, tasks, etc.)
• General Set Etiquette and Procedures (terminology, general safety, protocol, call sheets, start paperwork, timecards, typical shooting day, wrap, etc.)
• Knowledge sufficient to thoroughly understand the diverse functions of delivering instruction in higher education
  • Skill in communication of instruction
  • Organizational skills and ability to maintain accurate records
  • In-depth expertise in at least one of the following crafts and/or specialty areas: Set Construction/Art Department; Lighting/Electric; Grip/Rigging; Camera; Hair/Make-up, including special effects; Directing or Producing for Film & TV.
