Job Summary

The Production Manager for the School of Theatre and Dance (SOTD) develops and maintains production calendars; works with the Production & Design faculty/staff and production teams to ensure deadlines and budgets are met; supervises the rehearsal process for each SOTD production; and along with other faculty/staff mentors, mentors student stage managers, and facilitates auditions for mainstage productions. For the Illinois Shakespeare Festival, the Production Manager develops and maintains production calendars; interviews and hires seasonal production staff; serves as a member of the Festival Management Team, meeting regularly throughout the year; works closely with the Technical Director and area budget managers to ensure deadlines and budgets are met; and provides onsite support for productions during the summer season.

Salary Rate / Pay Rate

up to $50,400 annual, combined with an excellent benefit package


Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or equivalent degree in Theatre or closely related field
  • Two years (24 months) of work experience serving as a production manager, a stage manager, or in theatre management.

  • Preferred Qualifications
  • M.FA. in Stage Management, Production Management, or related field
  • Teaching experience at the university level in theatre, stage management or a related field.
  • Basic knowledge of professional union contracts.

  • Work Hours

    Core Hours: 8:00am-4:30pm Monday through Friday with weekend and evening hours as production needs dictate; flexible schedule

    The Civil Service examination for this classification is based on your application materials and responses to the supplemental questions. No participation other than submission of applicant materials is required from applicants that qualify to take the exam. If you meet the minimum required qualifications for this position, you will receive a score calculated based on your education and experience, and your name will be placed on the active employment register by exam score.
