The University of Idaho (U of I) is a research university. The University Communications and Marketing (UCM) Creative Services Print Production team is a key component to telling the U of I story far and wide. The Print Center Specialist works collaboratively with our graphic design team and campus partners to ensure the highest quality print materials are produced on time and on budget. This position is also responsible for delivery of print jobs across campus.
Position Overview
This position assists in the printing, copying and bindery operation by operating equipment used in creating high quality printed materials. This position is responsible for meeting with clients, preparing and outputting files to network printers via a network from customer provided files, maintaining and operating high volume digital network printers and related equipment. This position is also responsible for the pick-up, delivery of jobs across campus as well as shipping of materials to vendors and University of Idaho locations across the state.
Duties may include:
  • Operation of digital press, bindery and copier equipment
  • Communication with clients to determine their needs and develop deadlines
  • Provide products on time and within budget
  • Edit and merge different digital formats for output
  • Monitor and manage inventory
  • Assist with troubleshooting and maintenance of equipment
  • Assist customers with operation of self-serve equipment
  • Process customer transactions
  • Assist with training other employees
  • Deliveries across campus and within a close proximity to campus
  • Pack and ship print materials
  • Other duties as assigned

Position Qualifications


Required Experience
  • One year preparing and outputting digital files to networked printers and operating bindery equipment
  • Operating high-volume, high-speed copier/printer equipment
  • Using word processing, spreadsheet and other computer applications
  • Working in a customer service-oriented team environment to accomplish shared goals
Required Education
  • High School Diploma or equivalent

Required Other
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and be able to meet policy requirements for driving university-owned vehicles

Additional Preferred
  • More than one year preparing and outputting digital files to networked printers and operating various bindery equipment including drills, folders and cutters
  • Experience meeting with clients to determine production requirements
  • Experience handling cash transactions
  • Ability to maintain composure under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Possess strong mathematical skills
  • Possess excellent attention to detail
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
  • Must be able to:
    • Lift, carry and/or otherwise move materials weighing up to 50 pounds
    • Distinguish colors, weight and texture of paper
