Principal Scientist, Transporter Sciences

Updated: about 1 month ago
Location: Groton, CONNECTICUT
Deadline: 25 Mar 2024

Why Patients Need You

Pfizer's purpose is to deliver breakthroughs that change patients' lives. Research and Development is at the heart of fulfilling Pfizer's purpose as we work to translate advanced science and technologies into the therapies and vaccines that matter most. Whether you are in the discovery sciences, ensuring drug safety and efficacy or supporting clinical trials, you will apply cutting edge design and process development capabilities to accelerate and bring the best-in-class medicines to patients around the world.

What You Will Achieve

In this role, you will be joining a dynamic group within the Pharmacokinetics, Dynamics and Metabolism (PDM) at Pfizer's Groton, Connecticut campus, and will focus on the design and execution of strategies to evaluate Transporter-based disposition and pharmacokinetics to drive drug discovery and development programs across Pfizer's therapeutic areas including oncology, internal medicine, inflammation and immunology, and rare diseases.

Working collaboratively with project teams, you will implement experimental techniques such as cell-based assays and in vivo studies to build the understanding on drug transporters involvement in PK and drug-drug interactions (DDIs) for the candidate drugs and provide data-driven insights to inform discovery/design and clinical development strategies.

As a Principal Scientist, you will be recognized as a technical expert in design and execution of experimental in transporter assays and mechanistic ADME studies. Key to the role is an ability to propose develop strategies and execute approaches to address complex ADME/PK questions and an ability to learn, apply and champion novel concepts and technologies. You will undertake mentoring activities to guide team members. It is your hard work and dedication that will make Pfizer ready to achieve new milestones and help patients across the globe.

How You Will Achieve It

  • Apply technical and functional knowledge to design experiments and independently support quantitative endpoint analysis, particularly in the transporter sciences, and broadly in ADME profiling.
  • Design, execute and interpret in vitro transport studies independently, with ability to effectively communicate information to counterparts.
  • Provide scientific leadership and transporter knowledge or expertise for lab-based portfolio support and scientific innovation relevant to ADME sciences.
  • Interact across groups to advance transporter sciences tool kit and quantitative translational strategies via modeling and simulations.
  • Help define and to guide the science, culture, and evolution of the Transporters group. Maintain a 'cutting edge' awareness of technical developments and scientific advancements in the field and apply these innovatively to advance internal capabilities.
  • In partnership with counterpart scientific leaders, ensures effective use of internal and external resources of experimental labs across ADME Sciences to deliver key portfolio impact.
  • Advances scientific and technology innovation and excellence that translate to portfolio impact and novel and enhanced workflows.
  • Maximizes the individual development and performance contributions of matrix team members.
  • Create and communicate integrative presentations of biopharma. strategy, dataand interpretation to audiences at different levels of knowledge and expertise.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical sciences, Pharmacokinetics, Clinical Pharmacology or equivalent, with 3-6 years of experience relevant to drug discovery, ADME sciences, cell biology, pharmacology, or related discipline.
  • Experience in the design, execution, and analysis of cellular, molecular, and/or biochemical assays focused on understanding drug transport and metabolism.
  • Familiarity with PK modeling and simulation concepts and tools.
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration within multi-disciplinary matrix teams leading to delivery of project objectives.
  • Demonstrated experience coaching peers and team members. Ability to align, motivate, and support a team in defining and working efficiently toward project objectives.
  • Interpersonal skills to constructively challenge other scientists to ensure the group as a whole performs at a high level.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and demonstrates ability to prioritize and make decisions to maximize value and resource allocation.
