Job Summary

Under general direction, responsible for the supervision and coordination of custodial operations. Provides direction to employees according to established policies and management guidance. Monitors compliance, and operational performance and participates in long-range planning.

Supervise staff involved in cleaning patient rooms, nursing units, surgical areas, administrative offices, laboratory areas, waiting areas, and public restrooms using various cleaning chemicals and disinfectants. Follows established infection-control practices to ensure a clean and safe environment. Oversees bio-hazardous waste disposal process according to established procedures and quality standards. Follows established procedures for dealing with potential hazards. Monitors inventory and inspects equipment for repair and/or replacement, and floor care. May also supervise meeting room set-up hotel-like room servicing, and linen Services operations..

Department Description

The Hospitality Services Department provides housekeeping services, floor care, carpet care, compost, recycling, solid waste removal, and biohazardous waste removal at locations: Parnassus, Mount Zion, and Mission Bay Medical Centers and related locations. The department also provides consultative services to satellite UCSF clinics located throughout the Bay area as scheduled.


Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent certification required.
  • Solid knowledge of hospital, warehouse, or industrial janitorial cleaning.
  • Ability to establish and maintain work standards adhering to health and safety requirements.
  • Supervisory experience in a healthcare facility with working knowledge of human resources management practices and policies.
  • Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing. Ability to articulate complex ideas to a diverse staff population.
  • Solid decision-making and problem-solving skills. Ability to perform detailed analysis.
  • Ability to set priorities and manage conflicting demands. Ability to work effectively under pressure meeting established goals and objectives.
  • Intermediate computer application skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Working knowledge in custodial and housekeeping services.
  • Ability to read, write, and perform basic arithmetic calculations. Ability to follow oral and written instructions in English.
  • Display Maturity and Emotional Intelligence

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of relevant government, regulatory, and industry codes, policies, standards and requirements
  • Ability to deliver staff training and develop staff competencies.
  • Previous experience in hotel guest services
  • Budgetary Knowledge & Experience
