Job Summary

Responsible for informing prospective students about program philosophy, benefits, services, and admission requirements.


Job-Specific Responsibilities

The Predegree & Admissions Advisor is responsible for informing prospective degree applicants about Harvard Extension School’s (HES) historic commitment to educational access and lifelong learning, primarily by explaining its unique admission process to prospective adult learners, who compose the School’s student population.
The Advisor communicates with students about initial HES course selection via email, synchronous video, and phone. The Advisor helps position students to apply to the degree program by assessing their individual needs; responding to questions appropriately, accurately, and empathetically; and offering supportive guidance to aid in their successful admission.
Additionally, three times a year for several weeks at a time, the Advisor reads and processes applications for admission to the School’s degree programs. The Advisor assists in the planning and execution of in-person and virtual informational events and outreach efforts throughout the year, participates in professional development opportunities, and performs related duties as required. Occasional evening and overtime hours are required seasonally. This is a remote position. As per Harvard University regulations, all remote work must be performed in a state in which Harvard is registered to do business (i.e., CA, CT, MA, MD, ME, NH, NY, RI, and VT). Travel to Cambridge to participate in occasional Harvard events may be required.


Basic Qualifications

  • 5 or more years of job-related experience in an educational setting
  • Education beyond high school may count toward experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite

Additional Qualifications and Skills

  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • A positive attitude toward customer service is necessary, as is the ability to act with composure, diplomacy, and confidence while serving students with varied needs and expectations.
  • Excellent communication skills are expected, as well as comfort with public speaking and experience and interest in offering support to remote students. Strong candidates may be evaluated through video interviews and a writing exercise.
  • The ability to take initiative, prioritize, and complete tasks in an organized and expedient manner, meeting challenges creatively, effectively, and independently during high-demand conditions is required.
  • A minimum of three years of recent professional experience working in an office environment preferred
  • Familiarity with the Division of Continuing Education and Harvard Extension School degree programs is a plus
  • Experience with video communication technologies, such as Zoom, is preferred.

Physical Requirements

The Harvard Extension School, the Harvard Summer School, the Harvard Professional Development Programs and the Harvard Institute for Learning in Retirement allow Harvard to serve the learning needs of students across their life.
