Job Title: Surgical Progressive Care Unit (SPCU) Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant)

Position #00819165 – Requisition #32373

Job Summary:

The Division of GI, Tumor and Endocrine Surgery in the Department of Surgery at the University of Colorado, School of Medicine, has a full-time faculty position available at the rank of Instructor for a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA).  Under the direction of the full-time faculty or designee, this position provides inpatient and outpatient medical care services at the University of Colorado Hospital (UCH).

The candidate will be expected to provide independent clinical services for Surgical Progressive Care Unit (SPCU) patients at the University of Colorado Hospital (UCH). The Surgical Progressive Care Unit is a mid-level care unit.  These duties will include inpatient responsibilities such as rounding, writing orders, patient assessment, patient education, care coordination, disease management, and discharge activities. Close collaboration with general surgeons, sub-specialty surgeons, emergency medicine physicians, intensivists and hospital staff will be necessary.  Professional interaction with referring physicians and staff, emergency medical personnel and primary care providers is essential. The advanced practice provider will work with a multi-disciplinary faculty from Surgery, Anesthesia, and Emergency Medicine. The candidate will provide peri-operative care to patients in the surgical progressive care unit with traumatic injuries, emergency general surgical conditions, head/neck cancers and issues, plastic surgery reconstructions, and vascular pathology. Given the rotating nature of the resident assignments to services, the NP/PA will be a critical part of service continuity and also a link between the inpatient and outpatient environments for patients. Additional responsibilities will include being a key team member in a surgical rapid response role for inpatients with medical deterioration to stabilize on the wards and possibly transfer to higher levels of care. Work schedule will include nights, weekends, and holidays.
