Position Summary
The Principal Preparation for Excellence and Equity in Rural Schools (PPEERS), UNCG’s award-winning principal preparation program that focuses on preparing future leaders for rural schools in North Carolina is conducting a search for an individual to serve as Program Coordinator.
This is a full-time (1.0 FTE) position with the appointment to begin July 1, 2024. The individual will provide aid in administrative efforts of the program; serve as a thought partner, assist with curriculum development, serve as teacher of record, and teach in the program; provide professional, non-evaluative, “safe”, confidential, and culturally responsive equity-based coaching to Interns; and collaborate with colleagues in service activities.
The Department of Educational Leadership and Cultural Foundations (ELC) is both practitioner-oriented and research intensive. We are committed to the values of equity and social justice, democratic participation, caring, and educational quality and innovation in schools and throughout the public realm. With these values in mind, we seek to understand and change the theories, policies, and practices that are enacted in schools, communities, and other educational and cultural contexts. We endeavor to prepare exceptional educational leaders who are intent on transforming education and critically engaged academics who seek to challenge the intellectual status quo. We offer on-campus programming as well as a range of alternative programs and courses, including web-based instruction and distance education. The Department of Educational Leadership and Cultural Foundations offers Masters, Ed.D., and Ph.D. degrees and post-masters certificates in the intersecting areas of educational leadership and cultural studies.
The purpose of the Principal Preparation for Excellence and Equity in Rural Schools (PPEERS) Program is to recruit, prepare, and place high-performing educators as school leaders in high-needs rural schools. The ideal candidate would demonstrate knowledge in and experience with high quality instructional leadership with particular attention to equity and social justice. PPEERS is a two-year, cohort-based leadership preparation program resulting in a Masters of School Administration degree and initial principal license in North Carolina. PPEERS is funded by the North Carolina Principal Fellows Program for 2022-2028. As testimony to the PPEERS’ program’s high standing and success, it was recently honored by the University Council for Educational Administration with the prestigious Exemplary Educational Leadership Program (EELP) Award.
ELC and PPEERS are housed within the School of Education at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro, which The Carnegie Foundation has classified as a higher-research activity university and has certified as a community-engaged institution in both curricular engagement and outreach and partnerships. UNCG, a Minority Serving Institution (MSI), is one of the most diverse institutions of higher education in the state with an undergraduate population of 44% ethnic minority students. UNCG is proud of the diversity of its student body and our commitment to student success, and we seek to attract an equally diverse and committed applicant pool for this position. The University is located in Greensboro, a city of over 275,000 in a metropolitan area of 1.6 million people. The city has six colleges and universities and is an attractive community with rich historical traditions, a temperate climate, and a full and active cultural program.
