POSTODOCTRAL POSITION IN WATERSHED AND WATER QUALITY MODELING

A postdoctoral scholar position is available immediately in the Department of Food, Agricultural and Biological Engineering (FABE) in the College of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CFAES) at The Ohio State University (OSU). The postdoc will lead high-resolution model development for a sub-watershed of the Maumee River Basin and application of watershed and water quality models. The selected candidate will work under project funded by the State of Ohio and Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) to evaluate the water quality benefits of agricultural conservation practices in the western Lake Erie watershed under climate change, to guide the management of harmful algal blooms in the lake. The postdoc will coordinate efforts with a collaborative team of researchers at academic institutions, stakeholder members (State and federal agencies, profit and non-profit organizations in Ohio) and will help organize/engage an advisory group.

In addition to leading modeling efforts, the postdoc will be expected to disseminate findings through peer-reviewed publications and presentations at professional meetings. The postdoc will have the opportunity to develop new research ideas within the broader context of the project. This is a term position subject to annual renewals based on availability of funding. The position will be located on the Columbus campus. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Dr. Asmita Murumkar, Assistant Professor -Ecosystem Services Field Specialist of Extension – Agricultural and Natural Resources and Dr. Jay Martin, Professor of Food, Agricultural, and Biological Engineering at The Ohio State University.

Qualifications

  • Earned Ph.D. by date of hire with a strong academic background in agricultural engineering, ecological engineering, environmental engineering, civil engineering, hydrology, or closely related field.
  • Experience using hydrologic models for field and watershed assessment and basic knowledge of ag conservation practices.
  • Experience of writing successful manuscripts and grant proposals describing watershed models.
  • Experience of understanding and use of Global Climate Model outputs.

Skills

  • Knowledge of programming languages such as FORTRAN, R, MATLAB.
  • Experience using the Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and demonstrated ability to work with interdisciplinary teams and mentor students and past presentations explaining results from watershed models to public and scientific audiences.
