Position Description:

This position will explore the intersection between redox metabolism and inflammation during arthritis development in order to identify and ultimately test new strategies for preventing arthritis.  The department is involved in conducting high impact basic science studies for translation into clinically viable therapies.  



  • Conduct tissue culture and animal experiments including survival surgery and histological analyses.

  • Hypothesis generation, design and execution of research studies, data collection and interpretation.

  • Create and submit abstracts to national meetings for presentations.

  • Manuscript preparation and coordination as well as proposal preparation.

  • Develop independent research career and grant applications.

Education Requirement:

Must have a PhD in a bioscience discipline, MD PhD, or DVM.

Required Qualifications:

  • Publication record in peer-reviewed national and international journals that have been indexed in PubMed.

  • Experience presenting research at national and regional meetings.

  • Experience working with large experiments and datasets.

  • Experience working with animal models as well as experience maintaining murine colonies and genotyping offspring.

  • Experience with orthopedic histopathological techniques.

  • Experience with redox biological or redox biochemical techniques such as antioxidant enzyme activities, intracellular redox status, intracellular glutathione, or similar techniques.

  • Experience with statistical methods used for univariate or multivariate analysis, parametric or nonparametric, logistic regression, power analysis, etc.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Redox biology and redox biochemistry expertise

  • Excellent academic written and verbal communication skills.

  • 4 years of dedicated research experience in orthopedics, redox biology, or inflammation.

  • Experience with confocal microscopy.

  • Working knowledge of arthritis and models of arthritis.

  • Working knowledge of redox biology, mitochondria, and cellular metabolism.
