Post Doctoral Researcher to pursue specialized research training, education and experience under the guidance of a scientific mentor in the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine within the Department of Internal Medicine; plans, designs and executes experiments of considerable scope and complexity in the assigned research lab focusing on the role of host cellular proteins regular immune responses in pulmonary inflammation and Acute Lung Injury ; collects and analyzes data for research sponsored by appropriate agencies and Institutions; identifies and selects problems to be studied; develops and troubleshoots new experimental techniques and protocols; attends research seminars; contributes to manuscript preparation and supports technical writing; participates in preparation of grant applications for extramural funding; performs additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Education/Experience Requirements:

Doctoral degree in Biological Sciences required; Requires successful completion of a background check. Selected candidate may be requested to complete a pre-employment physical including a drug screen.


Additional Information:

We invite an outstanding candidate with a strong background in molecular biology and/or immunology to join our NIH-funded research group to study the role of host cellular proteins regular immune responses in pulmonary inflammation and Acute Lung Injury. Experience in molecular biology and/or mouse model of human diseases is a plus.

The Sarkar lab focuses on understanding monocyte/macrophage regulated host immune responses to develop a new class of therapeutics to combat sepsis, pulmonary infections and acute lung injury. The primary goal of our research is to investigate the cellular mechanisms and metabolic changes that control activation of the inflammasome, and regulation of extracellular vesicles thereby regulating host defense, monocyte/macrophage function and immune responses. Our approaches include biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, mouse models and translational approach using patient samples.

The candidate will have an opportunity to learn or become more proficient in the techniques in rodent models of lung injury/inflammation, fluorescence imaging, flow cytometry, proteomics, transcriptomics, and standard biochemical/molecular approaches. A competitive salary and benefits will be offered based on the NIH postdoctoral pay scale. The candidate will be expected to attend and present at local and national scientific meetings and funds are available for travel.
