JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at The Pennsylvania State University is seeking a talented, ambitious, and hard-working Postdoctoral Scholar. The successful candidate will work in the field of atomistic-scale simulations under the direction of Dr. Adri van Duin.

Job Duties:

  • Develop ReaxFF parameter sets.

  • Perform and analyze ReaxFF molecular dynamics and Monte Carlo simulations.

  • Assist with supervising graduate and undergraduate research projects.

  • Write manuscripts and participate in research proposals.

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in mechanical engineering, physics, chemistry, material science, or chemical engineering by the appointment start date.

  • Prior experience with a strong publication record. Experience in atomistic-scale simulation methods, particularly ReaxFF reactive force fields, non-reactive force fields, and Density Functional Theory methods, is required.

  • Prior experience supervising graduate students.

  • Good oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.

  • Proficiency with Fortran, C, C++, JAVA, Python or other relevant coding methods.

  • Experience with force field development is an essential asset.

This is a term position, funded for 1 year from the date of hire, with a possibility of renewal. This position is available by June 1, 2024.
