The Materials Research Science and Engineering Center – Center for Nanoscale Science at The Pennsylvania State University is seeking to fill a postdoctoral position in materials research /nanotechnology. The successful candidate will participate in research involving the study and theoretical modeling of self-powered motors and pumps that employ local chemical, optical, and thermal fields to power motion at molecular to microscopic length scales. The candidate will be expected to do theoretical work in close collaboration with the experimental groups. A solid background in nonequilibrium statistical physics is essential, and it is expected that the candidate be capable of using the whole spectrum of theoretical tools: from continuum theory approaches to lattice models, and from analytical methods to simulation techniques. Experience with the field of active matter is not essential but will be desirable. Requirements include a Ph.D. in theoretical physics, chemistry, or a related engineering subject. Applications must be submitted electronically and include a cover letter, CV and statement of research interests. Applicants should arrange for three letters of reference to be submitted to Denise Patton at firstname.lastname@example.org indicating the appropriate job number in the subject line. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until a suitable candidate is found.
