Position Overview

Position Summary:
 
The Department of Physical Sciences at Eastern New Mexico University (ENMU) invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher, starting February 5th, 2024. The appointment is initially for one year and can be renewed for one more year based on the availability of funding and continued satisfactory level of performance in the role. Salary is commensurate with education and experience. Review of completed applications will begin on January 18th, 2024 and continue until position is filled.


Requirements

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Synthesizing and characterizing carbonyl-functionalized conjugated molecules at ENMU. 
  • Probing the nature and transport of charges along conjugated molecules by pulse radiolysis with time-resolved infrared spectroscopy at Brookhaven National Laboratory.
  • Summarizing findings and publishing results in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
  • Presenting findings at research conferences.
  • Supervising and/or collaborating with undergraduate and graduate students.
 
Minimum Job Requirements:
  • A recent Ph.D. in chemistry and/or chemical engineering, with a preference in organic synthetic chemistry.
 
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Demonstrated experience, via publication record including first author publications, in the multi-step organic syntheses and characterization methods.
  • Experience with photoelectrochemistry.
  • Project management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work as a team player and to communicate and present information clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.


Working Conditions

 Physical Demand and Working Conditions:

  • Work is sedentary in nature with 25 pounds of maximum weight to lift and carry. 
  • Work during normal work hours and may include weekend and evening hours.
  • Work requires reaching, handling of objects with hands and/or fingers, talking, and/or hearing, and seeing.
  • Work may involve exposure to health hazards through the use of chemicals and instruments in the research laboratories.
