Job Description

The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), located at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Golden, Colorado is the nation's primary laboratory for research and development of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies.

The Sensing and Predictive Analytics group at NREL is looking for an accomplished and dynamic candidate with sharp problem-solving skills, focus on impactful solutions, a growth mindset, and excellent collaboration skills to join our cutting-edge research team to work on data-driven technology for power systems operation, forecasting of renewable energy and load, and system identification. The candidate should demonstrate theoretical and practical knowledge in applied mathematics and strong power systems domain knowledge and have experience developing software tools.

The candidate will be part of the Sensing and Predictive Analytics group under the Power Systems Engineering Center (PSEC) at NREL. PSEC supports the science and technology goals of the U.S. Department of Energy and NREL toward a sustainable energy future. The center works with the electricity industry to optimize strategies for effectively interconnecting renewable resources and emerging energy efficiency technologies in the existing electric power system. The center focuses on resolving grid integration barriers and providing improved control and management strategies for increased grid flexibility, consumer empowerment, and transportation electrification.

This postdoctoral researcher may contribute to multiple projects with objectives in developing data driven and machine learning technologies. The successful hire will contribute to building open source data sets and advanced Distributed Energy Resource (DER) management algorithms. The successful candidate will apply familiarity with distribution system operation, data analytics and machine learning technology for high penetration solar PV technology applications. The successful candidate will be familiar with Distribution system simulations and will ideally be familiar with co-simulation approaches.

Please note: this postdoctoral researcher position is flexible for either on-site or hybrid (on-site and work from home) work arrangements based in Colorado. The position is not eligible for 100% remote work options outside of Colorado.
