Postdoctoral Research Fellow

Location: Moscow

Division/College: WWAMI Medical Education Program

Employee Category: Exempt

Pay Range: $50,000-$55,000 annually

FTE: 1

Full/Part Time: Full Time

Position Summary:
Postdoctoral research fellows will support the Idaho WWAMI Associate Director of Medical Research, Dr. Russell Baker, and WWAMI outreach programs (e.g., Project Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes [ECHO] Idaho, North Idaho Area Health Education Center [NI-AHEC]) in meeting the program mission: to improve the health of Idaho's underserved and rural communities through the purposeful integration of medical education, research, and service to advance clinical practice and patient care in Idaho.

Postdoctoral research fellows will join the WWAMI IOURMR research team in assessing and empirically describing the healthcare needs of Idaho communities and the impact of WWAMI's programs (e.g., ECHO Idaho, NI-AHEC). Additionally, fellows will play a role in supporting currently funded ECHO Idaho and NI-AHEC programs which aim to: 1) examine the effects of participation on healthcare professionals, and 2) determine the potential benefits of program participation to the Idaho healthcare system, patient communities, and state of Idaho as a whole. The results of the assessments will ideally be used to inform strategies for upscaling the Idaho healthcare workforce and capitalize on opportunities to improve patient care in Idaho. Postdoctoral research fellows will predominately work with IOURMR research team members, led by Dr. Baker, but opportunities exist to work with other Idaho WWAMI students, faculty, and staff, as well as our collaborators from state and federal agencies.

Postdoctoral research fellows will also be responsible for supporting grant development, research design, and report/publication development. In collaboration with IOURMR team members, fellows will conduct and coordinate research efforts and program assessment, produce associated high-impact written products (technical and non-technical), coordinate report dissemination activities, and present research findings. Opportunities for independent work on the development of reports and publications under the direction of Dr. Baker will also be available. Fellows will develop skills in interdisciplinary research, workflow management, written and oral presentation and communication, creativity and networking, along with meeting facilitation and participation. Fellows will also develop academic teaching and mentoring skills by assisting with the delivery of research methods coursework and providing research support (e.g., data analysis, research design) for student and faculty projects in the WWAMI department.

Ideal candidates will have earned a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g., public health, health science, education, epidemiology, psychology, exercise science), have a strong research background using quantitative, qualitative, or mixed methods approaches, and excellent written communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences. The anticipated start date for the positions is August 2023.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Ph.D. or equivalent in a scientific discipline
  • Experience working collaboratively on a multi-investigator team.
  • Experience writing for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience with analysis programs (e.g., SPSS, AMOS, R, etc.).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. or equivalent in public health, health science, education, exercise science, or a related field.
  • Experience working collaboratively on a multi-site, multi-investigator team.
  • The ability to explain nuanced concepts to business leaders, policymakers, educators, researchers and other leaders in the state of Idaho.
  • Strong research and technical skills, with demonstrated experience conducting data analysis and survey research.
  • One or more first-authored or co-authored publications in a peer-reviewed scientific journal.
  • Experience teaching, with a preference for experience delivering research methods or data analysis coursework.
  • Experience mentoring or supporting student led research projects.
  • Diplomacy and discretion when dealing with a diverse set of external groups.
