Position Summary
The Munroe-Meyer Institute (MMI) for Genetics and Rehabilitation at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) in Omaha is currently accepting applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position in MMI Administration – Research.
The Postdoctoral Research Associate will work in the laboratory of Dr. Jennifer Blackford (principal investigator/PI) to plan, develop, implement, and conduct research projects at the Munroe-Meyer Institute at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. The Blackford lab’s research is focused on understanding the neural basis of anxiety and the role of anxiety neurocircuitry in psychiatric and neurodevelopmental disorders. Projects include ongoing NIAAA-funded research in anxiety neurocircuitry in adults with alcohol use disorders, and new studies of anxiety in children. Postdoctoral Research Associates will have opportunities to advance high-impact research projects in these areas, gain expertise in fellowship/grant/manuscript writing, and hone their critical thinking and presentation skills to prepare for careers in academia. The Blackford lab uses a multi-level and multi-modal approach: we collect measurements across many levels including brain structure and function, physiological stress responses, and behavior. Our long term goal is to use these discoveries to develop new prevention strategies for children at high-risk for developing psychiatric disorders and new treatments for individuals suffering with these disorders. Duties involve research study design, data analyses, and preparation of scholarly products, including peer-reviewed publications, conference abstracts, and extramural grant applications. The Postdoctoral Research Associate is expected to have strong scientific writing skills and excellent communication skills, a good early track record of submitted or published peer-reviewed articles, exceptional organizational skills, ability to work as a team member, and the ability to advise and supervise trainees. Preference will be given to individuals pursuing an academic career who have a strong desire to lead independent projects and publish as a first author.
