What We Are Looking For

 

Dr. Sarah Schnitker at Baylor University invites applications for a postdoctoral research associate position in the Department of Psychology and Neuroscience. The post-holder will work at a lab with the following main areas of emphasis: understanding the mechanisms of virtues, virtue and religious development, and religion and virtuous intergroup engagement. The post-holder will hold a leadership position for a major research initiative. This research could range from focused on spiritual/religious, moral, and meta-identity development within the context of higher education to cross-training theologians in psychological methods or to furthering research on the virtue of patience. This position begins summer 2024; funding is secured for two years with the potential for a 3rd-year expansion.

 

What You Will Do

  • Under the supervision of Dr. Sarah Schnitker, the post-doc will:
  • Conduct research and publish findings:
    • Manage existing and new longitudinal datasets.
    • Analyze data from existing datasets. 
    • Contribute and/or oversee study design, ethics review, data collection, and data analysis for new research projects.
    • Publish articles in peer-review journals
    • Present findings at conferences.
  • Provide supervision and mentoring to graduate and undergraduate students.
  • Provide support to grant projects as needed (e.g., writing update reports, assisting with conferences). 
  • Participate in approximately 2-4 trips/year for team meetings and scholarly conferences. 
  • Write 1-3 magazine/blog articles interpreting research findings for a popular audience.
  • Assist in grant writing.
  • Interface with a variety of audiences, including interdisciplinary groups.
  • Provide assistance with the preparation of project-related reports, manuscripts and presentations.
  • Conduct research design and oversee experiments.
  • Develop and establish experimental procedures.
  • Prepare and manage extensive databases.
  • Develop and implement research quality control procedures.
  • Analyze data and prepare reports; develop recommendations based on results.
  • Verify the accuracy and validity of data.
  • Work with highly technical and complex research instruments
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by supervisor to support Baylor’s mission.

  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.

Knowledge and Skills Required :

Qualified applicants will have a doctorate with research experience in a relevant area of, psychology (e.g., developmental, personality, social, quantitative, cultural). Expertise in advanced quantitative methods and analyses is required. Strong writing skills are required. Additional required competencies include demonstrated abilities to engage in: analytical and strategic thinking; relationship building and networking; versatility; project management; and time and priority management.
