This position involves duties related to Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS) research portfolio and will support research objectives set forth by the USDA-ARS/ UMaine collaboration. Responsible for developing and running numerical models to simulate hydrodynamic processes in the marine environment. The role involves working with complex datasets, conducting numerical experiments, and interpreting model results to support a variety of applications in marine engineering, coastal management, and environmental assessment. Typical hiring range for this soft-money funded, fixed-length position is $60,000 to $70,000 commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Required:

  • Ph.D. in oceanography, civil engineering, coastal engineering, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in numerical modeling software such as SWAN, ROMS, MIKE21, or FVCOM, and programming languages such as Python, MATLAB, or R.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience in data analysis, statistics, and mathematical modeling.
  • Familiarity with GIS software and spatial data analysis.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong sense of responsibility and initiative.

Preferred:

  • Experience with grant writing.
  • Enhanced knowledge of statistics and statistical analyses.
  • Understanding of the tenets of sustainable aquaculture.
  • Experience in project management and client interaction.
