Job Description

The laboratory of Prof. Seetha Raghavan at the Department of Aerospace Engineering, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Daytona welcomes applications for a postdoctoral scholar to commence work in Fall 2023 for a 2-year research position.

The selected Postdoctoral candidate will be tasked with the design, development and advanced characterization of materials in extreme environments to address current challenges in aerospace applications including hypersonic flight and space technology. The postdoctoral scholar will support the goals of the laboratory with research focus areas on novel materials, mechanics and measurements advances that enable accurate and high-resolution measurements of temperature and strains during operational extreme environments. Benchmarking new techniques with industry standards diagnostics will feature as part of the effort. The postdoctoral scholar will have the opportunity to collaborate with heavily with industry, national laboratories and international partners. 

This Postdoctoral Scholar position involves teaching responsibilities at the rate of four sections per year. The course selection, distribution, and scheduling will be performed in coordination between the candidate, the supervisor (Dr. Raghavan), and the chair of the Aerospace Engineering department or any other department in the College of Engineering for which the course section will be taught.

The selected candidate will work under the supervision of Prof. Raghavan. Dr. Raghavan values scientific and professional mentorship as well as outreach for the development of future scientists. 


Qualifications

Candidates should have a doctorate in aerospace engineering or mechanical engineering or materials science or a related field, and should have a strong understanding of the mechanics of materials, advanced diagnostics in this area, as well as experience in developing instrumentation and working with experimental techniques.

It is desired that candidates have strong presentation skills, capability to support research guidance of a team of students and excellent communication with external collaborators including industry partners and scientists.
