Position Summary:       


Postdoctoral fellowship positions are offered at the Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology, Yeshiva University in Bronx, New York. The primary training experience will be under the mentorship of Dr. Jeffrey Gonzalez, a core faculty member in the APA-accredited Clinical Psychology (Health Emphasis) PhD program at Ferkauf (www.yu.edu/ferkauf/degrees-programs/clinical-psychology-health-emphasis ) with a joint appointment at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Departments of Medicine and Epidemiology & Population Health (www.einsteinmed.edu ).

Fellows may also receive research mentorship and consultation from collaborating experts in behavioral science and technology, life course methodology, health systems and population science, and Latino health disparities through the New York Regional Center for Diabetes Translation Research (NY-CDTR; www.nycdtr.org ), which is directed by Dr. Gonzalez.

The NY-CDTR is one of seven Centers for Diabetes Translation Research funded by the NIH/NIDDK to promote translational research aimed at reducing diabetes health disparities and addressing social determinants of health (www.diabetes-translation.org ). Supervised clinical work in diabetes care is also available.

Fellows will participate in research seminars and will be able to take advantage of various opportunities for enrichment throughout Yeshiva, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, the NY-CDTR, and the Montefiore Medical Center (See: www.montefiore.org ).

Salary is competitive relative to NIH training levels and benefits are included. Pilot study funds are available. Travel funds are also available to attend scientific and professional conferences. Start date is flexible. Positions will be full-time for 1-2 years, with the possibility of extending further.


Position Responsibilities:

The primary responsibility of the fellows will be to contribute to ongoing JDRF- and NIDDK-funded clinical research projects being conducted in the lab.

  • Fellows will have responsibilities including data analysis, manuscript preparation, and assistance with grant proposals.
  • Extensive opportunities are available for secondary data analysis and first-author publications.
  • Opportunities also exist for mentored pilot studies directed by the fellow.
  • Fellows will also contribute to project management of ongoing studies. Specialized training in cognitive behavioral therapy protocols tailored for young adults with type 1 diabetes will also be available.
  • Teaching and mentoring roles may be available for interested fellows.
Experience & Educational Background
  • Candidates with a doctoral degree in psychology (clinical degrees preferred but non-clinical degrees will be considered) who have strong analytic and writing skills are encouraged to apply.
  • Prior peer-reviewed publication record, relevant experience, and promise for ability to obtain external research funding will be considered in ranking applicants.
  • Although not required, a degree in clinical psychology with an emphasis on health psychology/behavioral medicine is desirable.
  • Experience in the delivery of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is desirable.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Data management and analysis skills are desirable.
  • Manuscript writing skills are desirable.
  • Bilingual Spanish speakers are especially encouraged to apply.
