Summary

University of Michigan's School for Environment and Sustainability invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship to focus on Indigenous studies, with specialty in the Americas, and an interest in hemispheric Indigenous studies. The successful candidate will have a PhD in philosophy and will have a research background at the intersection of Feminist, Indigenous, and Anti-Colonial areas of philosophy, with strong familiarity in the relationship between philosophy and political organizing. The purpose of the postdoctoral fellowship is to advance the fellow's research and career in the aforementioned subject area. The fellow will pursue research in this area during their time at the University of Michigan based on their own interests and pursue professional development under the mentorship of Dr. Kyle Whyte, and engaging the broader scholarly community and scholarly resources at the University of Michigan. The Postdoctoral Fellow will undertake the following activities:

  • Philosophical research
  • Professional development activities
  • Participating in scholarly events on campus
  • Note: This position will be a one-year full-time term limited appointment with the possibility of renewal.

    Required Qualifications*
    • Ph.D. in Philosophy, obtained in 2023 or 2024
    • Evidence of experience in reaching beyond philosophical theory (e.g. archival research, oral history, etc.).
    • Dissertation focus area relating to Indigenous, Feminist, and Anti-Colonial areas of Philosophy

    This position is eligible for flexible work opportunities at the discretion of the hiring department. Flexible work agreements are reviewed annually and are subject to change dependent on the business needs of the hiring department, throughout the course of employment.
