General Notes

This is a temporary training position for one (1) year.

Purpose

The Postdoctoral Fellow will contribute to research in Carbon Mineralization in Mafic and Ultramafic Rocks. The selected candidate will conduct experimental research to characterize and predict the reaction rates and reaction geometry of mafic and ultramafic rocks in the presence of carbon dioxide at high pressure and high temperatures. The selected candidate will work under the supervision of Professor Nicolas Espinoza.

Responsibilities

• Prepares and runs batch reactor and flow through laboratory tests.

• Prepares manuscripts describing research findings for publication. Drafts scientific reports for inclusion in larger reports to the sponsors of the research. Writes the project reports for the funding sponsors and the technical papers for publication.

• Performs CT scanning and image processing.

• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Ph.D. degree in engineering, geosciences, or related field received within the past 3 years.  Research experience in batch reactor tests and core-flood testing.  Experience in the preparation of proposals and peer-reviewed technical papers.  Knowledge of geochemistry and geomechanics.  Ability to collaborate effectively with students, colleagues, and sponsors.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of numerical simulation of Multiphysics problems.

Salary

$65,000 + depending on qualifications

Work Shift

Extended work shifts for extraordinary events such as extensive experiments and professional meetings (sponsor meetings, conferences, etc.)

Retirement Plan Eligibility:

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
