Title | Postdoctoral Fellow in Whole Plant Physiology |

Department/Area | Organismic and Evolutionary Biology |
Position Description | The Holbrook Plant Physiology Group at Harvard University is seeking an exceptional postdoctoral researcher to work with us on drought responses and stomatal biophysics. The Holbrook Plant Physiology Group studies the physics and physiology of vascular transport in plants with the goal of understanding how constraints on the movement of water and solutes between soil and leaves influences ecological and evolutionary processes. Major areas of research include questions relating to cavitation, stomatal mechanics, solute transport, cell wall mechanics, and wood anatomy. We combine laboratory, controlled environment, and field measurements and investigate plants of diverse lineages and environments. We believe that diversity, collaboration, and mutual respect are essential to any scientific endeavor. Job Description We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher with expertise in leaf gas exchange and xylem physiology, to work on a study of stomatal biomechanics and regulation of leaf gas exchange. We expect the postdoc to be able to work independently and contribute intellectually to broader research themes and directions in the lab. The starting date for this one-year, term appointment is January 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter. The appointment may be extended for up to three years, contingent on demonstrated success and continued availability of funding. Situated in the Biological Laboratories, the Holbrook Group actively investigates questions in plant physiology, plant-environment interactions, and plant evolution. We are part of Harvard’s Department of Organismic and Evolutionary Biology, which is a vibrant community of cross-disciplinary biological scientists at Harvard University. |
