Postdoctoral Fellow, Human Aging Genetics

The Founder and Special Populations (FPS) group at the Regeneron Genetics Center (RGC) seeks a versatile and innovative postdoc in human aging genetic and associated diseases.

This project will focus on a) identifying genetic factors contributing to resilience to age-related diseases and traits, b) identifying novel genetic variants associated with healthy aging, and c) understanding the complex interaction between genetic variants and environmental factors in longevity. You will implement the project by learning and applying a range of statistical genetics methods such as genome/exome-wide association analysis, fine mapping of genetic variants, phenome-wide association analysis, survival analysis, polygenic and clinical risk scores, and Mendelian randomization to incomparable RGC human genetic datasets.

In this role, a typical day might include:

• In-depth literature review to understand the research question and keep up to date with current research in the field of aging genomics.

• Conducting innovative and creative research to address a novel scientific question under the auspices of scientist mentors.

• Generating clinical and phenotype datasets with the clinical informatics team for genetic analysis.

• Performing genome/exome-wide association analysis using sophisticated bioinformatics and statistical genetics tools such as REGENIE.

• Deep diving to understand the genes' functions and their relevance to aging biology.

• Generating and analyzing polygenic and clinical risk scores.

• Presenting data internally, including at TAG meetings, trainee meetings, and companywide seminars.

• Providing ongoing reports of research progress to supervisors and program staff.

• Presenting data at major external conferences and publish in high-profile peer-reviewed journals.

• Assisting with mentoring and instructing high-school, undergraduate, and graduate school interns.

• Participating in postdoctoral program activities such as weekly meetings, seminars, and the annual postdoc retreat.

To be considered for this role, you must have a Ph.D. or MD/Ph.D. in human genetics, computational biology, bioinformatics, or statistical genetics. We seek someone with hands-on experience in analytical genetics, genome/exome-wide association studies, survival analysis, Mendelian randomization, rare variants, gene burden analysis, phenome-wide association analysis, and fine mapping. Expertise in cloud-based genetic data analysis using R or Python computer programming language is highly desired.
