Job Summary

This funded position is a one-year project, with potential for renewal depending on progress, working in close collaboration with one of the largest lithium metal battery startup companies in the world. The position involves developing a non-destructive ultrasonic metrology tool for quantifying liquid electrolyte propagation in battery porous electrodes. The start date is January 2024 or as soon as possible, and the position will lead to clear opportunities for employment in the battery startup and EV battery manufacturing space. The hiring manager may consider up to two positions if there’s a strong applicant pool.

Essential Functions

  • Develop and use non-destructive metrology tools, including data processing in Python and hardware design, for quantifying liquid electrolyte propagation in battery electrodes.
  • Understand how local material properties impact lithium metal cell behavior.
  • Work with PI to mentor graduate and undergraduate students, present work at conferences.
  • Help PI with writing proposals.
  • Involvement in outreach and educational activities of the lab.
  • Report results and data in meetings with project sponsor.

Required Qualifications

  • PhD or Doctorate in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
  • 0-3 years of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Python programming experience
  • Experience with battery electrochemistry, including cycling, impedance, potentiostat operation.
  • Experience with making coin cells, pouch cells, disassembly, characterization of materials.

Location

Additional Information

This position is classified as Exempt, grade I. Compensation for this grade ranges from $41,120 to $61,680 per year. Please note that the offered rate for this position typically aligns with the minimum to midrange of this grade, but it can vary based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
