The Department of Diabetes Complications and Metabolism is at the leading edge of research on the complications of diabetes and was the first to study epigenetic changes in diabetes complications. The department uses state-of-the-art computational and systems biology data-analysis methods, genomic and epigenomic profiling approaches, novel transgenic mouse models, and translational approaches to study connections between diabetes, obesity, and cancer.

A postdoctoral position is immediately available in the Tompkins lab within the Department of Diabetes Complications and Metabolism at City of Hope. We are seeking highly motivated individuals interested in stem cell biology (pluripotent and hematopoietic), directed differentiation, and locus-specific epigenetic editing in regenerative medicine. As a successful candidate, you will:

  • Explore the therapeutic potential of basic discoveries in epigenetic control of cell fate and epigenetic memory in diabetes complications.
  • Evaluate both site-specific epigenetic correction and innovative systemic approaches to correcting epigenetic events in diabetes complications.
  • Be involved in several interconnected projects.
  • Conduct organized, high quality, and reproducible research.
  • Routinely meet with PI, core team, and collaborators to accelerate research findings.
  • Present your findings at select conferences and departmental seminars.
  • Seek out extramural funding for an individual fellowship.
