The Cooperative Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Studies (CIMAS) has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Postdoctoral Associate to work in Beaufort, NC (or remotely.

We seek a postdoctoral associate to join our research team in the Atlantic Fisheries Branch of the NOAA Southeast Fisheries Science Center. The primary activity will be to advance the southeast US Atlantic red snapper stock assessment model, by incorporating data from the ongoing South Atlantic Red Snapper Research Program and evaluating various approaches through simulation testing. This work will be at the cutting edge of stock assessment methodology, as the first assessment to include close kin mark recapture for a U.S. domestic stock. The associate will be part of a large, interdisciplinary group, including scientists from three NOAA Science Centers (Southeast, Southwest, Alaska), three academic institutions (U FL, NCSU, TX A&M), and four state agencies (FL, GA, SC, NC).

Candidates for this position should possess a PhD in quantitative fisheries, statistics, applied mathematics, marine fisheries ecology, theoretical ecology, or a related field.  Strong quantitative skills are required, with experience desired in stock assessment, population dynamics, computer programming, statistics, and genetics.  The successful candidate should be motivated and capable of working independently as well as collaboratively within a group of interdisciplinary scientists.
The position will be located at the NOAA Fisheries Southeast Fisheries Science Center, Atlantic Fisheries Branch in Beaufort, NC. Remote work is an option.
