Required Qualifications: (as evidenced by an attached resume)
Doctoral Degree (or foreign equivalent) in hand by May 2024. Experience in Biochemistry, immunohistochemistry, metabolic analyses, RNA-seq analyses, primary cell culture, cell morphology analysis. Knowledge in different statistical analyses.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge in the neuroscience field.
  • Experience with culturing human pluripotent stem cells and differentiating them into neurons and astrocytes.
  • Knowledge and mastery of metabolic analyses.
  • Experience with mitochondrial analyses.

Brief Description of Duties:

An NIH-funded Postdoctoral fellowship position is immediately available in the Ballas lab in the

Department of Biochemistry and Cell Biology

. The

Ballas Lab

is seeking postdoctoral fellows to study the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying the neurodevelopmental disorder Rett syndrome with a focus on neuron-astrocyte interactions and the potential rescue of these interactions. We are currently using both patient iPSC-based models as well as mouse models. We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated candidate, with experience in molecular cellular biology preferably in the neuroscience field. The Postdoctoral Associate will be using multidisciplinary approaches to understand the mechanisms of Rett syndrome initiation and its potential rescue. The successful candidate will perform research and ensure that all experiments are appropriately conducted following the policies and procedures of Stony Brook University.

Duties:

  • Collect and analyze data for reporting experimental results in scientific publications.
  • Assist with training of other lab members in specialized scientific techniques.
  • Participate in weekly lab meetings presenting research data.
  • Other duties as assigned, which may include attending and presenting research results at Scientific Conferences and Meetings.

The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.

The starting salary range (or hiring range) to be offered for this position is noted below, it represents SBU's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Salary: $50,000-$65,000
