Job Description Summary:
In the Department of Biological Sciences, challenging science courses are just one part of a holistic approach to learning. Our curriculum integrates traditional study with individual mentorship in the lab and service learning and sustainable projects in the community, for a truly interdisciplinary experience.
The Postdoctoral Associate will participate in studies that use C. elegans to investigate the interactions between host intestinal microbiomes and immune responses to viral (Orsay virus) and fungal (microsporidia) pathogens. The successful applicant will gain expertise in various techniques, including gene expression analysis, gene editing, infection assays, fluorescence in situ hybridization, and microscopy, as part of their investigation into intestinal innate immunity. The successful candidate will join a highly collaborative environment that includes researchers at all levels working together towards common research goals.
Duties:
  • In lab research in innate immunity
  • Data analysis
  • Assisting Dr. Lazetic with supervision of students in the lab
  • Assisting Dr. Lazetic with manuscript and grant preparation
  • Maintaining worm and bacterial strains, media preparation
  • Maintaining lab notebook

Performs other work-related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will hold a Doctoral degree or comparable doctoral degree in a related discipline. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.
Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications:
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Genetics
  • C. elegans or other genetic model systems
  • Experience working with DNA and RNA (isolation, PCR, qRT-PCR, cloning)
Typical Hiring Range Commensurate with Experience.
