I. DEPARTMENT INFORMATION


Job Description Summary:
Conduct energy systems modeling for decarbonization of Navy ships. With funding from the Office of Naval Research provided to the LeBlanc Lab in the department will collaborate with the Naval Postgraduate School, Naval Academy, and American Bureau of Shipping to address the Department of the Navy Climate Action Plan and the Navy’s goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 65% in less than ten years. In this project, the postdoctoral researcher will create a physics-based model of next generation energy systems that integrates with an alternative energy analysis tool in order to enable decision-making about new energy technology impacts. The postdoctoral researcher will use these tools to model new decarbonization technologies such as alternative fuels and power generation systems and determine their impact and feasibility in existing and future ships.
Postdocs will design, organize and conduct specialized and advanced research using established scientific protocols and techniques, troubleshoot and design new protocols, summarize findings and publish results in research journals, under the general supervision of a faculty member. In some cases, postdocs will assume general responsibility for general scientific operations in the research group, and/or provide supervision and guidance to research staff, trainees and other researchers.
Examples of duties might include:
· Conduct physics-based energy systems modeling of combustion systems, alternative fuels use, and/or carbon capture and sequestration.
· Develop and contribute expertise in energy systems and decarbonization to research activities of the group.
· Manage and analyze extensive amounts of data.
· Manage several project tasks, collaboration relationships and interactions, and project personnel with strong time management and organizational skills.
· Create and present oral and written research and project management products.
· Work collaboratively on a team.
Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will hold a Doctoral degree or comparable doctoral degree in a related discipline. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.
