Job Description


The Department of Economics at Virginia Tech seeks to appoint one Postdoctoral Associate in the area of Economics of Diversity and Inclusion. We seek scholars who are committed to fostering an environment in which faculty, staff, and students from a variety of backgrounds, cultures, and personal experiences are welcomed and can thrive. Appointments are for one year but may be renewed subject to performance, needs of service and funding. Postdoctoral Associate will pursue their own research, engage in minimal teaching and be an active participant in the Department’s newly created Minor on The Economics of Diversity and Inclusion, as well as the opportunity to contribute to curriculum development in the minor.

Continued development of professional capabilities, and participation in scholarly activities is a must and includes travel to and participation in professional conferences and societies, as well as participation in department, college, and university service and governance and professional service. Required Qualifications

- PhD in Economics. PhD must be awarded no more than four years prior to the effective date of appointment with a minimum of one year eligibility remaining.
- Have scholarly expertise in economic issues relating to diversity and inclusion
- Show promise of significant scholarship and teaching ability
- Occasional travel is required for conferences and meetings

- A wide range of interdisciplinary interests
- Have an interest in curriculum development

The successful candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check as well as documentation of COVID-19 vaccination  or receive approval from the university for a vaccination exemption due to a medical condition or sincerely held religious belief.
