We invite you to apply for a Postdoctoral Appointee position within Argonne’s Chemical Sciences and Engineering (CSE) Division.

In this role you will:

  • Design, synthesize, and evaluate next-generation electro-catalysts for CO2 conversion to value-added chemicals and for water splitting using chemical and physical synthesis techniques combined with half-cell electrochemical methods, such as rotating disk electrode and H-cell, as well as full-cell electrolyzers

  • Perform catalyst structural characterization using conventional analyses such as XRD, BET, XFS, SEM, TEM, as well as the advanced characterization tools such as X-ray absorption and scattering methods

  • Work closely with modeling and simulation team in catalyst/electrolyzer system engineering and optimization

  • Design, synthesize and test new materials to improve fundamental understanding of the discharge-charge processes for the next-generation batteries

  • Prepare reports and oral presentations on project progress

Position Requirements

  • Knowledge of and experimental expertise in synthesis and characterization of electrocatalysts for the CO2 reduction reaction and oxygen evolution and reduction reactions

  • Knowledge of and experimental expertise in evaluating electrocatalysts using RDE, RRDE, H-cell methods, as well as testing in a full electrolyzer

  • Knowledge of and experimental expertise in TEM and synchrotron X-ray based catalyst structure characterization techniques

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with internal team and external sponsors

  • Knowledge of synthesis and preparation of structured porous materials such as metal-organic framework and/or porous organic polymers is a plus
