Position Title Post-Doctoral Researcher
Job Description Summary
A post-doctoral researcher to collaborate in empirical examinations of exposure to racial violence against Black people via media, etc. (e.g., news coverage, Tweets RE: Black Lives Matter). We have a special interest in the psychological content (e.g., stress, affect, emotion) of text and images and their implications for well-being and social and political motivation.
This position is scheduled to continue until May 31, 2024 (contingent on successful performance and continued funding for 2nd year).

Required Qualification Summary
Ideal candidates may have doctoral training in a quantitative social and behavioral science (e.g., psychology, sociology, psychology, political science, economics, communications, media studies) and/or in statistics or data science and will have an interest in data and social justice. In addition to the relevant social competencies and intellectual background and experience, candidates should have relevant quantitative skills (e.g., Natural Language Processing, Sentiment Analysis; Stylometry; Topic Modeling; Time series modeling; Spine Functions, etc.).
Preferred Qualification Summary
The funding for this position comes from Columbia’s Data Science Institute , which has numerous initiatives in racial equity , computational social science , and media and society that will benefit the project and the post-doctoral researcher.  Additional connections to other parts of Barnard College and Columbia University are also possible, including School of Social Work, School of Arts & Sciences (psychology, sociology, economics, etc.), School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (computer science, system science).
Salary Range $58,000-68,000 (depending on skills and experience)
