The Department of Epidemiology at Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health in New York City invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Scientist with interest in Alzheimer's disease. 

The postdoctoral scientist will conduct research with several large-scale projects among diverse people taking a multidisciplinary approach to understanding the role of structural racism in cognitive aging and Alzheimer's disease. Research projects will take place under the supervision of the Principal Investigator, Dr. Paris Adkins-Jackson. The Scientist will support several ongoing projects including tasks like data management, and statistical and psychometric analysis with complex survey research and longitudinal cohort designs. The Scientist will also provide assistance with preparation of reports and peer-review manuscripts, developing research protocols to extend the scope of the project, collaborating on research grant applications, participating in seminars and work groups, and participating in a productive research team, and other support as required. These tasks will be completed with the joint purpose of completing tasks related to the grant and preparing the Scientist to establish an independent line of research. 

The position offers one year of postdoctoral fellowship with compensation commensurate with experience, excellent benefits package, and funds for travel to professional conferences and meetings. Individuals with the following characteristics will be competitive for the position: strong motivation and commitment to a career in disease modeling, excellent communication and quantitative skills, ability to conduct self-directed and collaborative research.
 

  •     PhD, ScD, MD, or equivalent degree in Applied Statistics, Epidemiology, or related health or analytical       disciplines; if degree not conferred yet, must have defended dissertation.
  •     Excellent written and oral communication skills and be detail oriented
  •     High-level interpersonal and organizational skills
  •     Less than ten years' experience post-doctorate
  •     The ability to work with large teams of investigators
  •     Strong statistical skills in SAS, R, Stata
  •     Experience with longitudinal data analysis (e.g., survival analysis and other time-to-event procedures,         trajectory analysis) and latent variable modeling (e.g., factor analysis)
  •     A demonstrated record of individual initiative in research
  •     Potential to become an independent academic researcher within two to three years
  •     Familiarity with Mplus, structural equation modeling, and multiple variable regression
  •     Work experience in health research
     

    Hiring salary range $90,000-$90,000
