Job Summary
The Bowdoin College Psychology Department invites applications for a Post Doctoral Research Fellow to join Assistant Professor, Abhilasha Kumar on a National Science Foundation (NSF) funded grant.
This role will collaboratively work with colleagues from Indiana University. The project, Modeling Search within the Mental Lexicon (NSF #2235362) will investigate the cognitive mechanisms underlying memory search and retrieval, by developing a unified computational framework based on a large gamified behavioral study and novel approaches to model search via random walks and optimal foraging, as well as capture idiosyncratic and lexical sources of variance.
  • This is a two-year appointment. Position will remain open until filled, applications will be accepted on a rolling basis

Education/Skills Requirements
Required:
  • Applicants must have received a Ph.D. in Cognitive Science, Psychology, or a related discipline or produce documentation that a Ph.D. will be completed before the start of the position.
  • Experience in Python and/or R and interest in learning computational modeling.
  • Familiarity with version control (Git/Github) and project management.
Experience Requirements and/or Equivalents
Required:
  • Demonstrated interest in cognitive science research on memory, search, and language.
  • Strong track record of publication in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Demonstrated commitment to open science practices.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with and mentoring undergraduate students in research contexts.
  • This position is subject to a criminal history background check.
Standard Work Days and Hours
  • This is a two-year appointment, with a flexible start date between January and July 2024
  • This is an exempt position requiring time commitment necessary to satisfactorily complete job requirements.
  • Typical hours are 8:30am – 5:00pm but evening and weekend on call coverage may be required.
