General Description of the Position

The Mathematical Imaging and Visual computing group, part of the Institute for Health Equity Research (IHER) and the College of Agriculture, Science and Technology (CAST), is recruiting a qualified post-doctoral fellow to perform research in the areas of biomedical image analysis and machine learning. The successful candidate must have background in image processing/analysis, machine/deep learning, and data science. The post-doctoral researcher will work on deep learning techniques for image segmentation, image registration, and prediction modeling.

Essential Functions

The following are the functions essential to performing this job.

1. Develops, executes, and validates image analysis and machine learning algorithms

2. Prepares manuscripts for submission to scientific journals and conferences

3. Performs literature studies and writes technical reports

4. Organizes and attends research group and sub-group meetings

Other Functions

Individual in this job may be assigned one or more of the following tasks on a rotating or as-needed basis,

1. Oversees image analysis projects and works with other lab members

2. Presents lab’s research work regional, national, and international scientific meetings and conferences

3. Attends workshops/seminars on biomedical and biological image analysis and machine learning

4. Attends workshops/seminars on data analytics and health informatics

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The individual in this job must possess these skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that they can perform the essential functions of the job, with reasonable accommodation, or using some other combination of skills and abilities.

1. PhD in Computer Science, Computational Mathematics, Engineering, or related areas

2. Good analytical and quantitative skills

3. Demonstrated experience in tissue identification, quantification and classification using biomedical or biological imaging data

4. Knowledge of Matlab, Python, C++, and programming IDEs

5. Works well as part of a multi-culturally diverse team


Qualification Standards

1. Education: PhD (required) in Computer Science, Computational Mathematics, Engineering, or related areas

2. Publications in refereed journals and conferences

3. Other preferences: familiarity with medical imaging database management and/or web-based application development
