Job Summary
Dr. Alice O’Toole is seeking a highly motivated post-doctoral scientist to work on a federally funded project aimed at developing, implementing, and analyzing face identification tests for forensic examiners and machines. The project involves using the output data from machine learning models of face identification to compile sets of face identification images to be used for testing purposes.
The Research Associate will plan, conduct, and direct a wide variety of experiments and simulations using advanced equipment and applying complex techniques, methods, and procedures. They’re responsible for the evaluation and interpretation of research data, for planning and executing the details of experiments according to research protocol, and for writing research papers. The successful applicant to this position will conduct machine learning experiments using state-of-the-art algorithms. They will apply statistical methods and procedures for the analysis and characterization of the representations produced by the algorithm. They will also supervise undergraduate research and work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team. We will provide ample opportunities to learn new techniques in the lab. We welcome trainees who want to pursue independent funding. Our lab is a collaborative and interdisciplinary group that works extensively with computer vision labs at Johns Hopkins University.
This position is in the department of Psychology in the School of Behavioral and Brain Sciences at The University of Texas at Dallas (bbs.utdallas.edu). UTD is the fastest growing University in Texas, is ranked number 3 in the nation among universities less than 50 years old and houses a vibrant behavioral and brain sciences research community. Minimum Education and Experience

Ph.D in a related field.

Preferred Education and Experience
  • Ph.D. in Cognitive Science, Neuroscience, Psychology, or related field
  • A minimum of two first author papers published or accepted in a peer-reviewed journal
  • A firm background in behavior, statistics, and data analysis
  • Experience with machine learning, especially as applied to computational vision problems is a plus, but not required
  • Experience with programming (Python and/or R), as well as statistical knowledge is highly preferred

  • Statistical knowledge pertaining to the multivariate data analysis
  • Ability to work collaboratively with excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong proficiency in the English language (both written and verbal)
