 Post Doctoral Fellowships (2 in theory/computation - Hiring Multiple Positions) 

Artificial Intelligence for Quantum Materials

 

The University of Tennessee, Knoxville was recently awarded a NSF Materials Research Science and Engineering Center: The Center for Advanced Materials and Manufacturing (CAMM).  CAMM is seeking two highly collaborative scientists for prestigious postdoctoral fellowships available to work as part of a new interdisciplinary center at the interface of quantum materials and artificial intelligence.

 

The successful candidates will be responsible for developing AI-assisted theoretical/computational modelings. They will collaborate with faculty, postdoctoral associates, and students from various disciplines including Physics, Materials Science, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. The research will involve feedback loops between theory and experiments, evaluating quantum materials growth and spectroscopy techniques such as neutron scattering, photoemission, and microscopy.

 



Qualifications

 

 

​​Desired Qualifications:

        PhD in Physics, Materials Science, Chemistry, Computer Science or other discipline related to development of Artificial Intelligence.

        A strong publication and research record is desired.

        Research experience in Artificial Intelligence for Quantum Systems/Materials. Additional research experience in areas that support the center’s Artificial Intelligence mission including, but not limited to:

-          Neural network simulation of strongly correlated systems.

-          Automation, active and reinforcement learning

-          Material informatics and data-driven approaches for materials discovery and device design, including machine learning methods.

-          Computational modeling of experiments, such as transport, neutron scattering, and scanning probe microscopy.

-          Expertise in one of the following methods: DFT, ED, MC/QMC, quantum cluster method, DMRG, or two-dimensional tensor network.

 

Candidates with experience in more than one discipline, or interest in collaboration across these disciplines, are preferred. However, candidates who can define a unique research area are also encouraged.

 

Salary will be determined commensurate with experience. Benefits will be typical of those of exempt employees at the University of Tennessee.  Some funds are available to outfit computational resources and a travel budget is also available.
