Description

The University of Tennessee (UT) has an immediate opening for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position in the Soft Materials Group. The group includes researchers from the UT Knoxville and from the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. The main research topics of the group are dynamics of polymers, including polymers with reversible (dynamic) bonds, and nano-composite materials, ionic conductivity in polymer electrolytes and ionic liquids, molecular transport through polymer membranes. Research will center around two topics: ionic conductivity in liquids and polymers; and dynamics of associating polymers. Candidate must have a PhD in Physics, Materials Science or a closely related field. Deep knowledge and expertise in broadband dielectric spectroscopy is required. Good knowledge of rheology and/or scattering techniques is a plus. The candidate will work independently, leading the research topics and participate creatively in refining project directions, leading research of graduate and undergraduate students. Responsibilities will include directing research projects of graduate students. This candidate will perform dielectric, light scattering and rheological measurements, analyze and interpret results for publications in peer reviewed journals.  Interested applicants should send their resume and three letters of recommendation to Prof. Alexei Sokolov, [email protected] . Minimum Requirements:   

  • By hire date, PhD in Physics, Materials Science or a closely related field. 
  • Deep knowledge of broadband dielectric spectroscopy is required.
  • Candidate must have a proven track record of research and publication.
  • A postdoctoral experience is beneficial.
