Description

Post-Doctoral Research Associate, Civil & Environmental Engineering

This position involves experimental research with C1- and C2-compound degrading microbial cultures to identify pathways of chlorine substituent removal and carbon assimilation.  The overarching goal is to identify pathway-specific genes that can serve as process-specific biomarkers in environmental monitoring regimes. Target gene and transcript enumeration with quantitative real-time PCR and proteomics workflows will be applied to explore if rate-biomarker abundance correlations can be established.  Ultimately, samples from field sites will be analyzed to demonstrate the utility of the approach to support bioremediation applications.  Duties associated with the position include leading the experimental activities associated with cultivation, physiological studies, and biomarker identification and validation.  The successful candidate will be involved in technical interactions with graduate students, contribute to and develop new research initiatives, and fiscal/technical management of research projects.
