Post-doctoral Research Associate - Biochemistry, Cellular, and Molecular Biology

Description:

An opening for a postdoctoral research associate is available in Prof. Tessa Calhoun’s research group at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. The researcher will conduct nonlinear spectroscopy experiments on biological systems as part of an NIH-funded project. Qualifications

 

Duties/Responsibilities:

·       Lead the collection and analysis of spectroscopic data to study bacterial membranes

·       Present and report research results, and publish scientific results in peer-reviewed journals in a timely manner

·       Serve as a mentor to graduate and undergraduate researchers in the Calhoun lab

·       Foster and promote a positive, respectful work environment

Minimum Required Education and Experience:

·       PhD in chemistry, biochemistry, biophysics or related field at the time of hire.

·       Hands-on laboratory experience in physical, analytical or biophysical chemistry

Minimum Required Skills and Abilities:

·       Understanding and application of basic laboratory safety procedures and ethics

·       Strong/excellent written and verbal communication and organizational skills

·       Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

·       Ability to think critically and employ scientific problem-solving and troubleshooting.

·       Ability to be respectful, collegial, and work well with colleagues from diverse backgrounds.

·       Ability to set priorities and multi-task

Preferred Skills and Abilities:

·       Experience with nonlinear spectroscopy techniques, specifically second-order

·       Experience with bacterial cell culture

·       Experience controlling hardware using LabVIEW and data analysis using Matlab or Python

Additional Information:

·       The appointment is for one year with extension upon mutual agreement
