Job Summary

The Postdoctoral Fellow will work with Dr. Prabha Sundaravadivel and other members of the CeRIS team on an interdisciplinary research project related to computer vision and aerial robotics in agriculture. The project will involve drone optimizations, computer vision, closed-loop control, multi-modal sensor fusion, machine learning, and transfer learning methods. The candidate will also work in collaboration with scientists at the USDA-ARS Crop Production Systems Research Unit, Stoneville, MS to collect data during the cropping season. This position will oversee research and research staff within the department. The initial appointment is for one year, renewal is expected if progress is satisfactory, and funds are available. 

 

Major Responsibilities/Duties/Critical Tasks

  • Help design and conduct research within a specified field.
  • Receive advanced training from a designated Principal Investigator.
  • Responsible for leading a project (in vitro and in vivo).
  • Operate specific equipment within the Chemistry lab.
  • Teach techniques to others within the department.
  • Train and supervise junior research staff including students.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Required Education/Experience

  • Ph.D. in Computer Science / Computer Engineering / Electrical Engineering 

 

Accompanying Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Competencies

  • Excellent track record of research and publications related to the job description.
  • Excellent programming skills (Python is required, ROS, C# and C++ are desired).
  • Fluent in English.
  • Experience with sensing technologies, computer vision, and perception.
  • Excellent scientific writing ability and strong oral communication skills.
  • The ability to work effectively and collegially with colleagues.

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
