The Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics (DARE) centers its research, teaching and outreach activities in defined areas of excellence: agricultural education, agribusiness management and finance, livestock systems, consumer choice and the economics of water, land and environment. We are dedicated to, and appreciated for, engaging stakeholders in high-quality disciplinary and interdisciplinary research, as well as the ability to effectively communicate findings to the public and peers. Excellence in teaching and mentoring students is created with thoughtful and innovative curricular design, emphasizing experiential learning where appropriate and fostering student achievement. Position Summary
Scientists predict that climate change will increase the frequency, intensity, and cost of inland flooding events within the United States. At the same time, there is evidence that people are moving into areas with higher flood risk. To understand the economic impacts of flood events, it is critical to develop a better understanding of how individuals respond to information related to flood risks and events. The selected individual will work in collaboration with Dr. Bayham, Dr. Goemans, Dr. Manning, and Dr. Suter in the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics to analyze responses to flood risk, information about flood events, and evacuation orders using mobile device location data. The research will include the compilation and analysis of datasets related to the timing, location, and intensity of flood events. Finally, the selected individual will quantify impacts on short-run and longer-run economic activity.
